Participation key to success of Community Radio, says MIB official

The participation of communities is critical for the sustainability of community owned and run radio stations.

Odisha could have at least two to three more community radio stations in the next few months, to add to the six existing ones. The state has already achieved the distinction of having the maximum number of community radio (CR) stations in eastern India.

Bihar has four CR stations, while Bengal and Assam have two each. Sources said the lone community radio station in Jharkhand has been shut down.

However, despite a higher number of CR stations in the state, experts feel Odisha should have more than just six, especially in the tribal-dominated districts.
